The Safety of Our Children is Our Top Priority

January 24, 2013

Dear parents and friends of the club:

Our board of directors and I reviewed our policy for background checks on volunteers and professional staff last night.  I thought I would share this with the friends of our club as we all know the safety of our children is our top priority.

All volunteers and professional staff authorize the club to have them complete a comprehensive criminal background check.  Once authorized to work or volunteer at the club all professional staff receive annual background checks through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.  Those who volunteer at the club on a regular basis are also subjected to annual background checks.

Our staff has quarterly training, many times in risk management and other topics relative to the safety of our children.  As you look at our guiding principles posted throughout the club, you will notice our number one guiding principle is the “Kids are Number One.”  Their safety means everything to us and we are vigilant in ensuring just that.

In the service of our kids,

Jeff Jacobs

Chief Professional Officer

Wichita’s Inaugural Restaurant Week Will Kick Off in 2013

Eat, drink and give back: That’s what diners can do at a wide array of restaurants from June 21 – June 30, 2013 in Wichita.  Boys & Girls Clubs of South Central Kansas (BGCSCK), Kansas Restaurant & Hospitality Association (KRHA) and Go Wichita Convention & Visitors Bureau announced today the  launch of the first ever Wichita Restaurant Week presented by Go Wichita.

For 10 delicious days, residents and visitors in the Wichita area can eat well and give back by taking advantage of special multi-course meals at participating restaurants.  Ten percent of each restaurant week lunch or dinner price will go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Central Kansas to help nourish the youth in the Wichita community.

“Wichita Restaurant Week is a great showcase of the quality and uniqueness of Wichita restaurants. It’s also a perfect opportunity to nourish the youth and bolster our local economy,” says KRHA President & CEO Adam Mills. “From family-owned eateries and well known restaurant chains to chef-driven restaurants, Wichita has something to suit everyone’s tastes.”

Restaurant Week has been successfully launched in key U.S. cities since 2002. New York, Chicago, Boston, Denver, San Diego, Miami, Atlanta and Philadelphia are a few of more than 30 major cities nationwide, plus a growing number of smaller communities who host Restaurant Week. In addition to showcasing Wichita’s great dining options, Wichita Restaurant Week will spur both locals and out of town diners to revisit old favorites and, best of all, try new places.

“Our restaurant choices are one of the reasons why visitors choose Wichita as a destination,” says Susie Berglund Santo, Go Wichita president and CEO. “We believe Wichita Restaurant Week will entice even more visitors from across Kansas and northern Oklahoma to visit Wichita and sample the many flavors of our city.”

Stay tuned for a list of participating restaurants, along with their Restaurant Week lunch and dinner menus. Please visit www.wichitarestaurantweek.com for the latest information. Wichita Restaurant Week can also be found on Facebook and on Twitter (@WichitaRestaurantWeek).
